What The Contemplative is
The Contemplative is one of six travel typologies named at the end of the Soul Compass. It describes someone who travels to get their own thinking back.
Most trips are built to fill time. This one has to protect it.
How you move
You wake early and you want the morning to belong to you. You would rather spend three days in one town than three towns in three days. Crowds don’t offend you, but they cost you something, and by evening the cost shows.
You are usually the person everyone else relies on. Travel is one of the few places you are not required to be available.
What your journey is built around
A journey designed for you starts with what gets removed. Fewer stops. Longer stays. Mornings held empty on purpose, before the day can be sold to something else.
Rooms are chosen for what can be heard from them. Meals are unhurried and often early. Guides, when there are any, are people who know when to stop talking. Nothing is scheduled that you would need to recover from.
What arrives usually looks lighter on paper than the trip you would have booked yourself. That is the point. Doing less is not a smaller journey. For you it is the whole design.
